How an umbilical piercing is set
As is the case with piercings that are set through cartilage, such as nose piercings or certain ear piercings, a navel piercing cannot be shot. Setting a navel piercing should be done by needle piercing. The piercing actually goes through the skin around the navel. Usually this is the fold of skin directly above the navel, but you could also have an umbilical piercing on the sides or bottom of the navel. Incidentally, setting an umbilical piercing is not possible on all navels just like that. Of course, the piercer will discuss this with you in detail beforehand and explain whether it is possible to pierce your navel. With navel piercings, some navels have a high risk of irritation and inflammation, or the body may reject the piercing and it will grow out. This is a greater risk with navel piercings than with most other piercings, which is mainly caused by the fact that pressure can be put on the piercing by the abdomen pushing outwards. You can probably imagine that this is much less the case with piercings in the ear or nose because the ear or nose do not involve a lot of movement and inflow and outflow of pressure from within.
